January 26, 2026, the inauguration program of the Mother of Peace School, a comprehensive education program of the Battambang Catholic Parish, as part of the Disability Capacity Project of the Battambang Charity Organization, with the invitation and participation of His Excellency, Msgr Enrique Figaredo, Apostolic Prefect of the Battambang Catholic Parish and President of the Karuna Battambang Organization, Preah Yospanha, Dr. Vy Sovichea, President of the Buddhist Branch of Preah Sihanouk Raja University, Battambang Province, Mr. Yi Songky, Director of the Department of Education, Youth and Sports of Battambang and Mr. Tum Chhiet is the Executive Director of Karuna Battambang, and was attended by sisters, teachers, Karuna Battambang staff, and national and international guests.
In addition, the Bishop Kike said: "I would like to encourage parents who have children with intellectual disabilities to send their children to receive education at the Mothers of Peace School so that their children can develop well in the future." At the same time, Preah Yaspanha, Dr. Vy Sovichea, said: "The Mother of Peace Special Education School provides opportunities for all children with intellectual disabilities, and currently we have seen that there is an increase in our community, including Battambang province, where many children are experiencing cognitive problems. The establishment of the Mother Peace Special Education School in Battambang is a response to a real need in our society that requires us to work together to solve and I am also happy to see this school for the people of Battambang City, and it fills a gap in what we need to do in our society. As a monk, I would like to support all efforts that help children, especially children with intellectual disabilities, and we should not discriminate against or abandon those children. We must embrace them and provide them with education, both physically and intellectually.
Mr. Yi Songky, Director of the Battambang Provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sports, said: “I thank and appreciate the Karuna Battambang organization, especially Bishop Enrique Figaredo.” and all the team members who created this special education school, Mother of Peace.
